Position: Facilitator – English Exposure Class 3 to Class 10

Profile Description: We are looking for an experienced teacher for English Language for primary and secondary level. High level of proficiency in English Language, preferably with teaching experience in India. Experience with usage of content with first generation learners will be preferred.

Position is for Facilitator to build English Skills through Exposure in English for Classes 3 to 10. Children are largely first generation learners with no exposure to the English Speaking world. Building exposure in English is imperative to ensure that academically and in careers in future children can do well. The work would involve building English Skills in Listening, Speaking and Reading in children through various tools – Audio/ Visual, Group Discussion/ Activities/ Role Plays, Reading, Narrating.

Job Timings: Full Time 9.00 AM to 6:00 PM (Monday to Saturday, Second and Fourth Saturdays are off)

Vidya & Child works in marginalised communities, exploring the unique potential in each child by providing opportunities for value integrated learning and development. The organization is currently based in Noida, India, with funding from International and National corporates, funding organizations and individual donors.

Vidya & Child has Schools in low-income communities from Nursery to Class 8, and an After School Support Programme for Class 9 to 12. Started in 1998 with 2 children and today, Vidya & Child engages with 1,700 children most of whom are first generation learners! Vidya & Child has established a model of engagement to ensure that each child completes school education, is skill enabled through professional or vocational education.

A very strong parent programme exists so that as a team “The Parent” and “Vidya & Child” can support a child through school and support till completion of school education. Our Arts & Performing Arts Programme, engagement in Sports and an intensive Life Skills programme further enhance the holistic engagement with each Child from Nursery to Class 12.

Detailed Roles & Responsibilities

The Facilitator role involves:

· Understanding, connecting, and building relationships with each child.

· Creating a positive learning environment, where each child feels welcomed and encouraged to question and learn.

· Design and Implement teaching – learning processes where the child is able to connect and apply concepts learnt to real-life situations. Learning to be fun!

· Consistently record and track the observation and progress of each child across various defined parameters of holistic development.

· Working with peer groups on regular basis to identify the critical needs of every child and applying innovative, positive methodologies to help each child overcome different challenges.

· Maintain a respectful, progressive, and in-depth relationship with the family of the child.

· Focus on self-learning and development to address the needs of each child in the classroom.

Taking English Exposure Classes for Classes 3 to 10

Focus on Listening, Speaking and Reading Skills in English.

The child is not comfortable with the English language, exposure needs to be built to enable the child to apply learning in daily life. This will enable the child to be able to learn the Language and retain interest to further academic and career development in the future.

The child’s learning is dependent on the facilitator being able to reach out to EACH CHILD, relating the engagement in the class to the Child’s life and observing the learnings demonstrated by the child at each STEP of the learning process. Lesson plans implementation would need to ensure that it is customised keeping the interest of the child.

· Focus on building exposure for Listening, Speaking and Reading Skills in English.

· Apply different tools as per a customised lesson plan, depending on the needs of the class/ child – Audio/ Visual, Group Discussion/ Activities/ Role Plays, Reading, Narrating.

· Learning process encourages the Child to be a Self-learner.

· Learning to focus on the child implanting learnings in Daily life.

Preparing Lesson Plans

Focus on Listening, Speaking and Reading Skills in English.

· Preparation of lesson plans for each class keeping in mind the child. Every child engages differently, and it is important that the learning be focused on the child applying the learning in regular life.

· Research/ Curate content through which the child can be exposed to English. Develop strong skills in Listening, Speaking and Reading in English through various tools applied in classrooms. – Audio/ Visual, Group Discussion/ Activities/ Role Plays, Reading, Narrating.

· Preparation of lesson plans customised to each specific classroom and child requirements.

· Organising materials for implementation of the lesson plans – Audio Visual Material/ Books/ other material.

· Ensure flexibility in lesson plans to address challenges and be able to respond to immediate situations in the classrooms.

Tracking Progress for EACH CHILD

· Understand progress of each child.

· Build the next steps, depending on where the child is in the learning process.

We have a child-wise tracking process, what and how the child has learnt defines the next steps in the engagement in the classroom. Each child would need to be tracked to understand how the content needs to be adjusted to ensure that every child learns.

· Meeting with Class teachers at regular intervals to build understanding of each child.

· Direct Interaction with Children in classrooms.

· Documentation of progress of each child and define next steps.

· Participating in Child-wise review process related meetings and identifying & tracking actions for both children and families.

· Curating/ Researching/ Changing content to focus on specific needs of children.

Summary of Requirements & Qualifications

· Graduate and above in English.

· Minimum 10 years of teaching experience in English Language in primary and secondary levels.

· Has experience/ interest/ability to teach English through various methods/ tools – Audio/ Visual, Group Discussion/ Activities/ Role Plays, Reading, Narrating.

· Preferably with experience in the development sector or educational activities with children of low-income families.

· High proficiency in computer usage for research and content creation.

· Should be Delhi-NCR based preferably Noida.

· Ability to engage with children of different age groups and believes in connecting deeply with Children directly in Class.

· The person should be able to focus on detailing for each child. With strong ability and willingness for planning & documentation in detail for each child.

· Ability to work in groups and with diverse set of teachers and co-workers.

· Attitude towards learning, who has good organisation capabilities and is methodical in her / his approach, is able to work independently in a planned manner.

These positions require physical presence daily at the assigned centres except non-working Saturdays and Sunday. Candidates with experience only should apply. Those with NGO experience would be given preference. Staying within Noida and preferably close to the centre location.

Salary will be commensurate as per the relevant experience & qualification of the candidate and as per NGO/social sector standards.
